Sunday, July 21st 1968.
Footage of a Centenary Mass in Dar es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania, where tens of thousands witnessed the celebration of one hundred years of the Roman Catholic Church in East Africa.
The open-air event was held at Nazamoja Ground.
The mass was preceded by the welcoming at St.Joseph's Cathedral of a Catholic delegation from Uganda led by the Archbishop of Kampala who then led a procession to the ground. The music of the procession was by a band from Morogoro which was conducted by Father Kanuty.
Present at the mass was President Julius Nyerere, one of Tanzania's 2.3 million Roman Catholics.
