Heavy metal may sound loud -- but if you cut deep there are some surprisingly touching songs about the ups and downs of love.

Disturbed
At first read, the lyrics to Disturb’s “You’re Mine” sound like a Celine Dion song…Now remove the penny whistle and add an electric guitar and pulsating drums and bada bing bada boom you have a heavy metal love song that we’ve have on repeat for years

Metallica
When James Hetfield first sang “never opened myself this way” in “Nothing Else Matters,” most fans agreed

The strikingly beautiful song trades power chords for subtlety and if anyone wrote lyrics like this for me, I’d be putting a ring on it.

Nine Inch Nails
There are several ways to interpret Nine Inch Nails’ “We’re In This Together” but if your significant other is a rocker and you need a way to express your love for them on Valentine’s Day -- opt for this banger.

Which couple can’t relate to lyrics like:
“You and me
We're in this together now
None of them can stop us now
We will make it through somehow”

Hell yea, Trent!

Slipknot
In the tune “Snuff,” Slipknot gets nice and slow to get us in our feels.

The song talks about a relationship that can’t work because, as Corey Taylor sings,

“My heart is just too dark to care
I can't destroy what isn't there”

Damn, son.

Korn
Korn’s “Everything I’ve Known” sounds scary and that’s because it’s talking about something very frightening -- ill-fated love.

The lyrics sum up the struggle of sticking around with someone you know is bad for you but you do it anyway because what the f**k not?
