I was thinking to come up with one chorus solo with technically less demanding ideas, then I felt a little dull and remembered it wasn't that fun to work on written out solo ideas when I was learning with my teacher to be honest.

Instead I made up a new tune, "Contrafact" is the term used for this type of composition using familiar chord changes and adding melodies on top such like Donna Lee.

It turned out it's a great example of the use of chord tones, motifs and rhythms.

While it sounds a bit like a study, it serves it's purpose of learning jazz vocabulary. I used few rhythmic and melodic ideas from other jazz standards too.

This is also what I did in berklee days as being a jazz composition major. Almost every week I had to come up with contrafact by ear like this while my teacher is playing piano in the class.

It was pretty difficult task for me as I don't have perfect pitch or didn't have strong ears. Though the training really paid off, so I recommend writing your own melody on top of changes as well.
