Telecom Scam Tragedy: Elderly Victim Kills Innocent Driver While Guarding Home

March 25, 2024, Ohio: 81-year-old William Brock got a scam call.
The caller claimed his grandson had crashed a car and needed $12,000 for bail.
They warned him—pay up, or his whole family would be killed.

Brock freaked out and grabbed a gun, waiting inside his home.

61-year-old Uber driver Lo-Letha Hall had been tricked into picking up a “package.”
While waiting in the driveway, she suddenly had a gun pointed at her.
Brock fired six times.
Hall collapsed in a pool of blood and later died at the hospital.

Brock insisted it was self-defense.
But Uber dashcam footage told a different story.
It showed Hall backing away and begging for her life.

In 2026, a jury found Brock guilty of murder, felonious assault, kidnapping, and more.
He was sentenced to 21 years to life in prison.
