Ticklin' Toes - Florence B. Price

#med (Music.Every.Day)

Day 37 is a piece called "Ticklin' Toes" by Florence B. Price. It can be found in Royal Conservatory of Music's Celebration Series Sixth Edition Level 7 Repertoire Book. The piece is a choice from List C (Romantic, 20th-, and 21st-century Repertoire).

It was interesting reading about Florence B. Price -- she was an American classical composer, (1887-1953) pianist, organist and music teacher so I feel a close kinship with her!

I love that her music is decorated with a dash of American folk songs. You'll hear it in the syncopation, offbeat punctuated cadences, and in the Southern style melodies.

The challenge in this piece is the "allegro molto" speed of quarter note = 120-138. Students might find it challenging to make this piece dance! There are articulations sprinkled throughout that add character to the piece, and hitting all the dynamic changes, slurs, accents, and staccatos can be challenging. The accelerando at the end is fun!

Tune in tomorrow for another selection! Let's see how far I can take this!
