A classic Victorian murder: The Black Widow - Murder Maps S04E02 - True Crime
Born in 1832 the story of the Black Widow is a tale of classic Victorian murder. Cotton travelled around the north east of England marrying lonely men whom she murdered and subsequently buried. Her M.O. was to poison them with arsenic and cash in on their insurance. Eventually she was hanged for killing her stepson who was inconveniently next in line to inherit after killing her final husband.
After her execution it was suspected that she was also responsible for the murders of a further 21 people including 11 of her own children.
