Most Ideas About Hell Don’t Come From the Bible

A lot of what people believe about hell does not actually come from Scripture.

It comes from culture — paintings, films, literature, and popular imagination. One of the most influential portrayals is Dante’s Inferno, which presents hell as a structured place with levels, punishments, and order.

But that is not how the Bible primarily presents hell.

The Bible does not give us a diagram of hell. It gives us warnings.

This video explains why we must be careful not to build our understanding of hell on culture, movies, or literature, but on Scripture itself. The Bible describes hell in layers — judgment, separation from God, destruction, outer darkness, and final consequence.

The point is not curiosity. The point is warning.

And every biblical warning about judgment should lead us back to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
