The Laughing Policeman, Charles Penrose, Victory Records No 53 December 1928 Victor Gramophone
Good day YouTubers! Here I think we have a little bit of a rarity, The Laughing Policeman, Charles Penrose, Victory Records No 53, December 1928
We are all familiar with the popular recording of this song by Charles Penrose on Columbia 4014 in 1926 but he did record this song a number of times for different labels.
Initially on Regal records G7816 in June 1922 and also on Dominion records in April 1929, but this version is on Victory Records was recorded in December 1928.
I understand that there were other versions on Eclipse as well and possibly another version of re-recording for Regal but certainly this is one that seems to be slightly rarer.
Interestingly none of the versions are the same they all bear variations in the lyrics but all around the central theme.
Certainly Mr Penrose made the most of his hit record.....it remained popular even into the 1970's
This plays very nicely on my Victrola using a soft tone needle as the grooves are narrower than the standard 78. Worth 6d of anybody's money!
More details about the machine can be found in my other clips.
Thanks for viewing, please like and subscribe if you can and happy viewing!
