Tamil Nadu State Board | Class 10| Science: Laws of Motion, Detailed Explanation. Learn in an hour.
1. Newton’s First Law (Law of Inertia)
An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion continues in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force.
Example: A book on a table stays still until someone pushes it.
Key Concept: Objects resist changes in their state of motion.
2. Newton’s Second Law (Law of Acceleration)
The force acting on an object is equal to the mass of the object multiplied by its acceleration:
F=ma
Example: Pushing a heavier cart requires more force than pushing a lighter one.
Key Concept: The greater the mass, the more force is needed to accelerate it.
3. Newton’s Third Law (Action-Reaction Law)
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Example: When you jump off a boat, the boat moves backward.
Key Concept: Forces always come in pairs acting on different objects.
