What is Rat-Hole Mining? | Class 10 Geography Short |#shorts

Rat-hole Mining is a method of coal mining in which very narrow tunnels are dug into the ground to extract coal. Workers enter these small holes to collect the coal manually.

This method was commonly used in Meghalaya, India. However, it is considered very dangerous because the tunnels are extremely small and accidents can easily happen.

Due to safety and environmental concerns, the National Green Tribunal banned rat-hole mining in many areas.
