Believe it or not, many people including the salespeople at the dealerships don't know about this. This gas pedal click is relatively new. The kick down switch was starting to be used in the 1980s but didn't become popular until several years later.
When you put your foot all the way down to the floor on the gas pedal, you will feel and hear a click.

This actually IS a performance mode and NOT all cars have it. It's for passing on the highway and it forces the car to downshift.

This is a Mazda CX5, but the same performance mode is likely available on other Mazda models as well. Mercedes, Volkswagen, and BMW have this downshift click on the gas pedal.

Cars built before 1983 do not have this function.

I would be interested to know what other vehicles have this performance mode. I know a lot of you will be immediately going out to your cars and checking if you have it. Please let us know what car you have and whether you have the same performance feature.
