Bird Wars: A Traitor in the Midst? | Ravens vs. Bald Eagles vs. Duck Eggs

Here on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula—the rainforest-clad crown jewel of the contiguous US of A—epic bird battles between our neighborhood ravens (we call them the Ravengers) and the evil Bald Eagles have been raining pandemonium on our new home, farm and ducks.

Maybe we’re just in our 30’s, but it’s fuggin awesome. Birding is the shiznit. Especially around our place—Everland Farm & Camp—a budding permaculture farm where giant gang fights between the eagles and the Ravengers are a weekly occurrence.

After weeks of provisioning the raven heavies (chalk it up to protection tax), our efforts are finally paying off, as we've stood witness to multiple eagle attacks thwarted by the Ravengers recently. The Ravens either circle beneath them in numbers and block the eagle's approach path for prey, or they straight up attack them.

All was fine dandy till our eggs started going missing. At first, we thought the ducks were sick. Then I set up a camera and caught the ravens red-handed, picking off our duck eggs one by one. But hey, good for them. There’s plenty to go around, and they deserve it.
