Fiber dominates as a data-transmission asset, says Zayo executive

Fiber-optic networks have physics to thank for being the most efficient means of data transmission, beating wireless and satellite, says Bill Long, Chief Product and Strategy Officer for Zayo, which recently partnered with EQT and DigitalBridge to buy the fiber solutions business of Crown Castle for $4.25 billion.

"At the physics level, there is a fundamental advantage for using fiber," Long tells Cool Vector. "Having fiber infrastructure that's in the ground is going to be a long-term asset that only increases in value over time."

Long shares his insights in the Cool Vector episode, "EQT, DigitalBridge and Zayo See 'Gargantuan' Upside in Fiber Networks," also featuring Arnav Mitra, Managing Director of EQT, Jonathan Friesel, Senior Managing Director of DigitalBridge and Cool Vector editorial advisor Phillip Koblence of NYI, Critical Ventures, UIA and Nomad Futurist.
