Buying Cheap Houses For One Euro In Italy | Mussomeli 1€ Home - Episode 1

So my brother saw a news clip of homes in Italy selling for 1 Euro.... Yeah 1 buck! He sent me the link and had my attention instantly. As a real estate flipper deals like this are hard to pass up. So I did what any half wit ENTP would do and booked a flight to Sicily to take on another project that would get my juices flowing.

When I started to research buying a Euro home in Italy, I came across a few videos on YouTube giving some background on the process and pro's and cons. What I didn't find was a full on vlog covering the entire process. Showing the public the nitty gritty of it all. Well, project 2 part within the original project haha. I have filmed my experience of buying a euro home and building a series of how to buy a one euro home in Mussomeli Italy.

Episode one covers my flight from New York City, to London, to Palermo Sicily, to Mussomeli. After arriving I give my first impressions of the city and tour a home under construction that was purchased by an Englishmen, now my buddy. I also find a contractor and give you a sense of what to expect when buying a euro home in Italy.

A little background on Mussomeli. Mussomeli is a small town in the countryside of Sicily. It is about 100km from the coast. The city was settled in the 1400-1600s so these properties are hundreds of years old. The city has seen a shrinking population as the younger generations opt to move to the big city of Palermo for studies or work or even leave Italy all together. That saying one man's trash is another' treasure couldn't be more true. You see in the eyes of the locals they would rather live in the new side of town since that side was constructed for modern living. Homes have parking spots and better layouts. But for this American boy, I want a property that looks like something out of the god father or DaVinci's sketches. So these old crappy homes are gold to me!

So what's my plan with these properties...hint I am buying more than 1. I plan on making both of these one euro properties my vacation homes. I will be able to stay with my family, while inviting friends to come along. It's such a nice break from the busy city life and sure to be stunning in the summer. When I am not there I will host the property on airbnb to generate some income. My guess is that foreigners shopping for euro homes and folks visiting their families would be my guest. At $40 a night my return on investment should be rapid.
