FEMM-based Learning App for Electrical Machines
This video demonstrates the Lorentz Force & Torque Simulator, a FEMM-based desktop application developed at EMDLab, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) for Electrical Machines course.
The app allows students to visualise how Lorentz forces on current-carrying conductors inside a permanent-magnet field produce electromagnetic torque — a foundational concept in DC motor operation.
Features:
Adjust number of turns, current, winding radius, rotation angle, rotor depth, and PM grade
Angle sweep to generate the full torque-angle characteristic
Live flux density map from FEMM finite element simulation
Force vs angle and torque vs angle plots — showing how conductor forces sum to produce torque
Built with Python, PyFEMM, and tkinter. Part of a research study on simulation-based learning in electrical machines education.
