How to Solder SMD Coils Like a Pro 🛠️🔬

Even the heavy parts snap into place! 🏗️🎯

Today on TechDayEveryDay, I’m replacing an SMD coil (inductor). Because these components have more thermal mass, they require a bit more patience with the heat, but the physics of surface tension remains the same!

The Pro Workflow:
1. Prep: Applying MECHANIC M35 flux to help the heat penetrate the large pads. 🧪
2. Removal: Using the WEP 862BD+ hot air station to lift the coil once the joints are fully liquid.
3. Fresh Start: Cleaning the area and adding a fresh dab of flux to the pads.
4. The Magic Moment: I place the new coil and apply heat. Watch as the surface tension of the molten solder pulls this heavy component into perfect alignment! 🔄✨

It’s always satisfying to see the self-alignment in action under the microscope. Check out my gear below! 👇
