Onboard 'The Christmas White Rose' with The Duchess and Number 9! - 15/12/18

December 15th saw the last steam run out of the Cross for 2018 and saw LMS Princess Coronation No. 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland' run from London to York and LNER A4 No. 60009 'Union of South Africa' would return the train to Finsbury Park due to an engineering block preventing the train running the final 2 miles into Kings Cross.

My first mainline railtour and what a run it was. The train was routed on the northbound run from Kings Cross - York along the usual route however, the train would turn right at Alexandra Palace along the Hertford Loop and rejoining the ECML at Stevenage, from then the train would run the usual route through Peterborough, Grantham, Newark, Retford and Doncaster. 60009 would return along the same route but would run via Welwyn and Potters Bar rather than through Hertford.

I highly recommend a steam railtour, no matter what the route or locos due to the immense thrill and joy of travelling at up to 75mph with a steam loco propelling you towards the destination along a mainline. BIG fun!
