Renée Flemming: Franz Schubert - Three Songs for Orchestra and Soprano (Claudio Abbado)
Live recording from the Lucerne Festival, 2005
Lucerne Festival Orchestra
Claudio Abbado - conductor
Renée Fleming - soprano
Franz Schubert - Three Songs for Orchestra and Soprano
0:14 I. Nacht und Träume, D 827 (Franz Schubert, orchestrated by Max Reger)
4:26 II. Die Forelle, D 550 (Franz Schubert, orchestrated by Benjamin Britten)
7:00 III. Gretchen am Spinnrade, D 118 (Franz Schubert,
orchestrated by Max Reger)
The Lucerne Festival Orchestra with Claudio Abbado as its conductor made triumphal headlines worldwide: from «the miracle of Lucerne» (Tagesspiegel) to «superbe et éphèmère» (Le Figaro). When Abbado and his newly founded Orchestra perform at the Lucerne Festival 2005, the whole musical world looks again to Lucerne. The programme of this concert recording is exquisite: Alban Berg’s “Altenberg Lieder” with world star Renée Fleming is followed by a performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No.7.
“I have rarely heard any soprano attach such colour and dynamic shape…” Die Welt
“Incomparably, a wonderful orchestra.” Neue Zürcher Zeitung
