Japan Day or Japan Tag / 日本デー in Düsseldorf, Germany, is a unique cultural festival. Every year it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors who want to experience the Japanese flavour of the city and enjoy the grand finale: A spectacular fireworks display. Here I am walking from the beginning to the end of the festival area in May 2022 and added the fireworks. After the event was cancelled 2 times in the past years, more than 600.000 visitors from home and abroad had the chance to enjoy a diverse range of presentations and entertainment, such as traditional music and dance programs, samurai presentations, sake seminars, calligraphy lessons, kimono fittings, Japanese board games, Manga stands and mouthwatering Japanese food such as sushi, sashimi and tempura. Traditional culture, modern Japanese pop culture and typical sports was presented on three stages. The climax at night was provided by the Japanese fireworks display. The motto for this year’s fireworks was “Together for Peace and Friendship”. On this very special Japan Day / Japan Tag (日本デー ) event, Germans and Japanese were brought together under the flag of the Rising Sun, to celebrate the intimate cultural, historical and economic bond that the two countries share.
