In this quick sewing tutorial, we are sharing our favorite technique for drafting a beautiful pleated dress pattern. We designed this scaled-down prototype to demonstrate how easily you can combine floral prints and solid fabrics to create a stunning, professional-looking garment. This method is perfect for testing out new dress patterns before committing to full-size yardage, saving us both time and fabric while mastering garment construction.

Watch our process as we begin by cutting the floral fabric to shape the perfect bodice based on our custom measurements. Next, we demonstrate folding and pinning crisp pleats into a contrasting yellow fabric to build out the skirt volume. Finally, we bring the whole design together by hemming the raw edges, stitching on delicate lace detailing, and attaching a classic rounded collar. We love how this pattern drafting trick turns out!
