Mixology 101 | How To Make A Citrus Twist (SAFELY!)

Every bartender must know how to garnish with a citrus twist. Countless cocktails call for a twist of lemon, orange, or another citrus. In this video, we guide you through creating this integral cocktail garnish!

Get your citrus ready! Keep in mind that cold citrus will release less oil, so make sure your citrus is at room temperature.

Grab your peeler. Start at the top of the fruit. Ensure your fingers are safely out of the peeler's path! Use your thumb to press against the citrus and roll the fruit. DO NOT PULL THE PEELER!

Use the hand holding the fruit to roll the fruit against the peeler, getting as little pith (the white part of the rind) as possible. Squeeze the oils over the center of the cocktail and run the peel around the lip of the glass.

Get creative! When placing into your cocktail, you can fold, twist, or place straight on the side of the cocktail.
