One Home, Three Ways: The "Making Room" Exhibit at the National Building Museum

Resource Furniture partnered with the National Building Museum to create an extraordinary exhibition exploring our nation's changing demographics and housing: "Making Room: Housing for a Changing America." The centerpiece of the exhibition is The Open House, a 1,000 square foot "responsive" house designed to accommodate a variety of households. Using transforming furniture, movable walls, and a host of innovative technologies, The Open House shows how a single home can support completely different household living arrangements without the any renovation. In the first scenario, the Open House is set up for four adult roommates living together; in the second, it is set up for a multi-generational family; and in the third, for an elderly couple and their live-in caretaker.
