Hawkeye Marching Band Gold Rush Campaign - New Instruments

https://bit.ly/hmbgoldrush

The boom of the bass drum.

The flash of sunlight on a brass bell of a horn.

260 marching Hawkeyes take the field.

We are the sound of Kinnick Stadium, and the heartbeat of our university. The Hawkeye Marching Band is a legacy 140 years in the making.
Over the years, the band has assembled a collection of game day and practice instruments for many of the sections: drumline, mellophone, trombone, baritone, and sousaphone. Students in the piccolo, clarinet, saxophone, and trumpet sections have always practiced and performed on their own instruments of varying quality and sound. To purchase game day instruments for these sections would make a lasting impact on the core sound of the band. Existing instruments must also be updated and switched out periodically to maintain the quality of the band’s sound.

The grand total cost for every instrument in the HMB is approximately $750,000. We are excited to share that we have already reached our goal of purchasing a new line of trumpets, thanks to gifts from John F. Allen and Tim Ternes and family. This is something the band has never had! Thanks to Jared and Carol Hills, we are also halfway to our goal of replacing our sousaphone line, which is in desperate need of updating.

To move forward in our goal of outfitting every member of the band with a quality instrument to play on Game Day, we have secured gift matches from John F. Allen and a coalition of the HMB Alumni Board, Barb McKenzie, Steve West, and the Vana family. The next $60,000 raised for the HMB will be matched through these generous gifts!
