Hard releasing 2 flying-foxes: Monash and Shepherd

Those of you who have been following the last few months of deathly outcomes, will appreciate this footage of us releasing 2 boys rescued last week.
Here are survivors Monash and Shepherd on their way back into the colony.
Monash was the boy with high protein powder and yoghurt on nose and I think he was the first one out.
He flew poorly and I was going to chase and re-catch him but he got some height and disappeared when Shepherd decided to start his own test flight; I was so distracted I didn't really get good footage of either of their flights.
I was sufficiently worried about Monash, so I went over and checked out the ground around where he was last seen, just in case he was grounded somewhere and trying to get into a tree, but when last seen, he was actually gaining height.
That's what comes of lounging around stuffing one's face for a week. It doesn't take long to lose flight fitness, which is why we don't hard release them if they've been in care for over a week.

Maggie and I did our usual high five, which I somehow omitted to record. We give those flights scores of Monash: 4 out of 10 and Shepherd: 7.5 out of 10.

Go out and plant trees and make babies, boys.
It makes my heart glad to have a few survivors.
