Epic Blonde to Copper Hair Transformation

This is a big one! So many things didn't go in my favour today with this blonde to copper hair transformation. It was just one of those days, you know, where nothing works the way you want it to, but in the end I'm so happy with the result. It's gorgeous and it suits her so much. Here's what happened…
Gorgeous Annalise wanted to try a copper colour today and me being me, I was extra cautious. Changing a blondie in my experience, they often want to go back quickly. That's why I always think about creating a gorgeous blonde underneath and creating the change with toner instead of a tint or a semi colour.

I did my full head of foils which went well, and I brought her back to the chair for toning - here's where I went wrong. Honestly, I think I just needed to leave the first toner on for 20 mins but I only had it on for around 10-15. When I rinsed it off I could see straight away that it wasn't strong enough. I reapplied at the basin. I still wasn't happy! Instead of going with it, I went for a third application (3rd time's a charm, right?) I'm not sure if there was anything coming into play here with a barrier on the hair because I was using a level 6, anyway, my final formula was 6.4 and 6 and 6.7. I really wanted that depth - I didn't want a translucent pastel result.

Reflecting on it later, I wonder if I should have skipped the foils and just done a semi colour on dry hair. Hmm not sure.

Final thoughts; this happens from time to time, we don't always get the colour perfect the first time. There's so many things that come into play when colouring hair and some hair just acts differently. Also, personally I love copper but I do think it can be tricky to get the balance right. I really don't like it when it feels too red. I think it's important for us to not beat ourselves up if we have to reapply - it's normal to have to tweak colours, especially on a colour change. Just get to the basin and get it right and if you don't have time, at least acknowledge it and provide a solution.
