Experts: American Axle strike could affect availability of trucks

Tuesday marked the second day of the massive strike at American Axle in Three Rivers, with hundreds of workers off the job and demanding higher pay.

That means automakers aren't getting the parts they need, and could stop truck production altogether.

The plant produced more than 1,000 truck axles per day for General Motors trucks like the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra, shipping them everywhere from Grand Rapids to Mexico.

But since Monday, workers have formed a picket line and say they won’t go back inside the plant without a new contract.
