Declarative language empowers a child to get what they need instead of triggering a fight/flight/freeze response.

Try changing your questions and demands (even implied!) to comments.

🗣️ “Blue is my favorite color!” Instead of
❓ “What color is that?”
🗣️ “I wonder what the other kids are doing” instead of
❓ “Go line up”
🗣️ “I’m not sure if you heard me” instead of
❓ “What did I say?”

The declarative statement 🗣️ doesn’t require a response and is helpful in building connection and cooperation. The questions and demands❓ do require a response or will be labeled as non-compliant.
