भारत के इतिहास में कई ऐसी चीजें हैं जिनके बारे में हम में से बहुत से लोग नहीं जानते होंगे। जैसे कि मुगलों का कोई भी शासक नेपाल को नहीं हरा पाया था। वैसे तो मुगलों ने कई युद्ध जीते थे, और बाबर ने भारत में मुगल साम्राज्य की नींव रखी थी। उसके बाद धीरे-धीरे मुगलों का विस्तार हुआ। कई शासकों की अदला-बदली भी हुई। लेकिन सच में मुगलों की ताकत औरंगजेब के शासनकाल में बढ़ी थी।

या यूं कहें कि काबुल से लेकर बंगाल तक मुगलों का दबदबा था। लेकिन इतना सब होते हुए भी एक जगह ऐसी थी जहां मुगल हमला करने से कतराते थे। मुगलों के किसी भी शासक में इतना साहस नहीं था कि वह नेपाल पर आक्रमण कर सके। लेकिन ऐसा क्या था कि मुगल नेपाल की तरफ देखने में भी कतराते थे? उसकी सबसे मजबूत कड़ी गोरखा राजवंश और गोरखा के लोग थे, जिनके अंदर गजब की बहादुरी थी। और इतिहासकारों की मानें तो नेपाल हमेशा आजाद देश रहा, और मुगल उस पर अपना सिक्का जमाने में अंत तक नाकाम रहे।
