Europe drought: Drone footage captures dried-up rivers, parched fields from extreme heat

A brutal summer of heat waves in Europe has caused havoc for many in rural regions and drone footage captured the dramatic uncoverings of drought-stricken rivers, lakes and parched fields across the Iberian peninsula.

As Spain experiences its worst drought in decades, the emergence of a prehistoric stone circle in a dam whose waterline has receded has been uncovered. Officially known as the Dolmen of Guadalperal but dubbed the Spanish Stonehenge, the circle of dozens of megalithic stones is believed to date back to 5000 BC.

In France, a record drought has reduced the Loire river, famous for the hundreds of castles on its banks, to a trickle.

In Italy, a rocky beach emerges from Lake Garda, the country's largest lake and major tourist destination, as it suffers from severe drought for months.
