Alaric the Visigoth and his golden Treasure

The buried treasure of King Alaric is a fabled hoards of gold, silver, and Roman artifacts.

It was allegedly hidden in 410 AD following the historic sack of Rome.

According to historical legend, the Visigoth king Alaric I was buried alongside his massive plunder.

His tomb is said to be hidden beneath the diverted riverbed of the Busento River in Cosenza, Italy.

The treasure remains unfound.

📜 The Legend of the Burial
The Booty:

Alaric plundered 800 years of Roman wealth.

It allegedly included 25 tons of gold. It also held 150 tons of silver.

Rumors claim it includes the sacred Temple Menorah.

The River Diversion:

After Alaric died of sudden illness in Cosenza, his army forced slaves to dam and divert the Busento River.

The Tomb:
A deep grave was dug in the dry riverbed. Alaric was buried in full armor with his horse and the loot.

The Cover-Up: The river was released back into its natural course. Every slave who worked on the project was executed. This permanently erased the exact coordinates of the grave.
🔍 Historical Search Attempts
The Monks (11th Century):

Calabrian monks searched the valley following old documents.

Alexandre Dumas (1800s): The famous writer reported locals frenziedly digging after an earthquake drained parts of the river.

The Nazis (1940s):

SS Leader Heinrich Himmler spearheaded a massive search. He believed finding the treasure validated Aryan myths.

Modern Archaeologists (2015): The town of Cosenza launched a technologically driven survey.
They utilized ground-penetrating radar, drones, and satellite mapping. No treasure was detected.

⚖️ Fact vs. Fiction
Most details originate from the 6th-century historian Jordanes in his work Getica. Skeptics note Jordanes wrote 140 years after Alaric's death.

Some historians suspect the story was a distraction.

The Visigoths may have actually marched north into Gaul with the real treasure
