"Virechan karma" (therapeutic purgation) is one of the five karmas of panchkarma, whose literal meaning is to purge.
In Ayurveda, the place between the navel and the heart is considered the place of Pitta (हृत् नाभ्योर मध्य पित्त संश्रया). This Pitta is called "Jatharagni" or digestive fire, which does all the metabolic activities in our body. If there is any problem in this Pitta, diseases arise in the person, which are termed as "Pittaja vyadhi".
To cure the problem of this Pitta, a Panchkarma procedure called "Virechan" or purgation therapy has been prescribed in Ayurveda. Virechan karma is considered to be the gold standard medical protocol for all Pittaj diseases. In this video we have discussed the purgation therapy, how it is done and what precautions should be taken before, during and after the Virechan karma.
