Peter Green Stunning Bluesbreakers Guitar Lick Lesson

In this guitar lesson, we return to one of the most influential figures of the British blues scene, Peter Green.

This time we are looking at what, on close examination, is a hugely instructive lick, again from his time with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, and from the tune, 'Another Kinda Love'.

It is of course to be found on the 1967 album, 'A Hard Road', on which Peter played 'Greeny', his famous 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard, serial number 9 2208.

So why is this such a particularly great lick?

Well, aside from the fact that it sounds fantastic, it incorporates some key blues guitar techniques in such a way that it makes a great workout and practice.

We have an unusual double-stop to start with.

Then we play a very swift and light vibrato before a swift position change.

Next there is a hugely technique that in a previous video I referred to as a short sweep (sometimes known as economy picking) where we drive the pick through the B string to the E string then play a very familiar sounding triplet that you find also in the playing of Eric Clapton and Mick Taylor.

Straight after that there is another rapid position switch, but this time you have to go into a bend immediately, with no rest at all.

Then there is a nice little touch involving the open G string..

And we finish off with the classic blues lick, that always sounds great at low end of the neck, followed by a quick bend with a short burst of vibrato.

It is a terrific lick!
