Operation Mincemeat: The Corpse Who Defeated the Third Reich

In a gamble that sounds like a spy thriller, British intelligence orchestrated one of the most audacious deceptions in military history. Faced with the challenge of convincing Hitler that the Allies planned to invade Greece rather than Sicily, they used a "dead man" to deliver the lie. They took the body of a homeless man, dressed him as a Royal Marine officer, and planted a briefcase containing "top secret" invasion plans handcuffed to his wrist. When they dumped him into the sea off the coast of Spain, the plan worked flawlessly: the documents were recovered by Nazi agents, causing Hitler to divert his forces away from Sicily. It was a macabre, brilliant, and ultimately decisive move that saved thousands of Allied lives.
