10. Devil’s Kettle, USA
Judge C.R. Magney State Park, located on the north shore of Lake Superior, in Minnesota is famous for a site called the “Devil’s Kettle.” Sounds pretty scary, right? Despite the name, it isn’t where the devil keeps his kettle or anything evil like that. It happens to be a strange waterfall split into two separate falls due to the rock formations. One of the two waterways flows into the Brule River, but the other disappears into a pothole below. It falls for around 10 feet before finally disappearing into the ground. Researchers haven’t been able to determine where this flow reconnects to the main source. Dyes, ping pong balls, and other objects that have been thrown into the Devil’s Kettle don’t seem to resurface anywhere nearby. So where do they go? Unless it really is a portal to hell...

9. The Petrifying Well, The UK
On the Banks of the Nidd River in North Yorkshire, England is one of UK’s oldest tourist attractions, The Petrifying Well. No, the basilisk from Harry Potter doesn’t jump up and petrify you, but the well was thought to be cursed by the Devil or a witch at one time. The waters inside the cave have a petrifying effect, meaning that anything the water touches turns to stone.

8. Underwater Park, Austria
A beautiful park, complete with benches and walking trails near the Hochschwab mountains in Austria, is only open for visitors during midsummer and autumn. It’s closed in winter because the entire park - along with the nearby town of Tragoss - gets buried under layers of snow. In the spring, all the snow melts from the mountains and the surrounding area and flows into the Gruner See Lake, causing it to overflow. The waters then submerge the park completely. Divers exploring the park underwater during this time see a whole new world where trout have made their homes under the bridges and benches. Some of the Alpine flowers even begin to bloom underwater. In summer, the lake’s waters start receding and by midsummer the park becomes accessible once again.

6. Kawah Ijen, Indonesia
5. Boiling River, Peru
4. The Great Salt Flats of Uyuni, Bolivia
3. Cave of Crystals, Mexico
