Closing your financial year in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central can sound daunting, but in just 2 minutes, I’ll give you everything you need to start 2026 off right.
Kicking off the first Business Central Tip of the Week (Episode 12) for 2026.
✅ Key Steps Before You Begin:
Ensure all 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗱 and 𝘀𝘂𝗯-𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗿.
Restrict posting dates for users to 𝟭/𝟭/𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 – 𝟭/𝟯𝟭/𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, except for the user running the year-end close (managed in 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗽).
Reconcile inventory and post all cost adjustments so you can close 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱𝘀.
Set up new accounting periods for 2026 by clicking 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿, confirming settings, and hitting 𝗢𝗞.
✅ Closing the Year:
In 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱𝘀, click 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 for 2025.
Search for 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, enter fiscal year ending date (e.g., 12/31/2025), select your batch and document number, and confirm the 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁.
Choose 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 (one retained earnings line) or 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀 (line per account).
Add posting description: 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 2025.
If consolidating multiple companies, toggle 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 on.
𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁: 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝘅𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.
𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗢𝗞, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹.
