Can’t believe I found the perfect song to summarize what college admissions officers r looking for!!

THIS IS ALL YOU NEED TO WRITE YOUR COLLEGE ESSAYS!!!

Can't believe I found a song that perfectly encapsulates everything I always tell my students about how to ace those personal statements/supplemental essays in the admissions process:

TELL US WHY: You do a lot of cool things. WHY do you do them? what gets you out of bed each morning? what makes you tick? why do you pour your blood sweat and tears into getting good at certain things? why do you love them? what do you hope to accomplish in the future with this? once you understand your WHY, everything flows from here.

SHOW US HOW: A lot of people's "why's" involve wanting to help people. amazing. HOW you help people is going to be what distinguishes you from others. your style, your set of superpowers, your methodology, your leadership skills, the way you approach certain things, the way you see the world—that's what's going to set you apart. plus, consider: HOW did you get to where you are today? what are some formative moments that have really shaped you? which leads to...

LOOK AT WHERE YOU CAME FROM: what's your origin story? how did you develop your WHY? was it instilled in you? was it modeled for you? did someone take you under their wing and you want to do the same for others in the way they taught you? what were some events that put you on the path you're on now?

LOOK AT YOU NOW: college essays are a great time to reflect on who you were, who you are, and who you want to be. colleges are looking for students who have a good sense of who they are, and where they're going in the greater sense: someone with a drive to make a difference in a tangible way in the near future. what are your character superpowers? are you creative, compassionate, courageous? are you a trailblazer, a maverick, a seer? it's important to give us a picture of the type of person you are today, and the type of person you hope to be in the future (shouldn't be too far off).
