Omar Ba: Political Animals Mural Installation

It took 16 days to install the site-specific mural that's now on view in Omar Ba: Political Animals. See the process unfold in just over a minute!

Omar Ba’s works typically build on a black ground to confront the underlying racism of the European canon and its foundational privileging of whiteness. His use of cardboard, a material often seen as cheap and disposable, references displacement, dislocation, and unequal development in urban expansion. He then layers multiple media to create entire visual ecosystems within the boundaries of a single work. The daily activities of Senegal, documented in the artist’s photographs of people at home and around town, often serve as the basis for his elaborate creations.

Omar Ba: Political Animals at the BMA is the artist’s first museum exhibition in the United States.
