10:16 My Conclusion on the Osmo Action 4
I have been a long time GoPro user, I use them in all my videos and was saving my coins to upgrade to the new GoPro Hero 12 until this came along.
This is the DJI Osmo Action 4 from DJI and in this video I’m going to show you everything there is to know about this camera, all the real world tests like vlogging, mountain biking, skiing and watersports, as well as all the things I love about this camera system and those I don’t.
DJI sent me the Osmo Action 4 to try out and after having it for a little over a month I can say that I'm so impressed. It's been a full on month with family holidays, mountain biking, a trip to Fiji, snorkeling, skiing and a good amount of time in the workshop.
It's not just the video quality, dynamic range, low light capabilities and stability that's impressed me, it's all the little things that make it so easy and quick to use that have made me pick this up first over all my other cameras, my GoPros, my mirrorless camera and even my phone. But before we get into all that let's just run through the specs.
Specs Chat.
The big new hype on this camera in the bigger sensor 1/1.3" , f/2.8 and a wider 155deg field of view. Giving you better low light performance, more dynamic range, and a wider field of view.
Resolution up to 4k 120 and 1080p 240 and everything in between 24 25 30 48 50 60 100 120
They have now also added D-log 10bt colour which is great for colour grading.
Easy on use
Custom button
So this little quick switch button is the same as in the GoPro, it can quickly change between your modes. The awesome thing about the Action 4 is the custom modes that you can add to this and fully customise on the menu which modes it cycles through. What is so helpful with this feature is, and how I used that is if you have a specific setup
Quick magnetic mount
Mounts and accessories
App connection and usage. Control and see footage.
Reliability
Battery life, charging speed and the battery case
Menus and usage so good.
Sound quality
Potential to add DJI mic but wish it did it via Bluetooth
Dislikes
No desktop app
Remote can’t auto turn on camera.
GoPro 12 chat.
So why am I not going to bother with Hero 12? Well up until now the Osmo Action line has been chasing the GoPro and trying to push it’s way into the market adopting the copy the best mentality to make something competitive in the Action Camera Space. This Action 4 is the first time when DJI has pushed past the hero line up in it’s features and left GoPro to be the one to catch up. You can see this in the new release of the Hero 12 with them adding DLog, removing the GPS to improve battery life, adding a ¼ 20 screw to help with mounting options and giving it 1deg more field of view than the Osmo Action 4 just t look good on a spec sheet, and not really tackling the the stuff we really want like a bigger sensor, better user interface and reliability.
