"Spider Swing" is the first movement of acclaimed MIT composer Elena Ruehr’s Eighth String Quartet entitled “Insect Dances.” Envisioned as a piece of music and a narrative appropriate for children as well as adults, Ruehr's "Spider Swing" tells a story of six insects at a dance party. In the first movement, Spider plans the party, with much advice from Dragonfly, and a little encouragement from Grasshopper.

The video — including character design, backgrounds, storyboarding and animation — was created and produced by a group of MIT UROP students, starting first with Aria Kydd and Skylar Larsen, then expanding to include Tolu Akinbo, Aimee Liu, Rachel J Park, Hanna Park, Awen Gronda, and Michelle Escobar.
