Feeling Like a Can on Valentine's Day
Before becoming famous as one of the top film soundtrack composers, Ennio Morricone arranged 500 pop songs for RCA Italiana recording label, and often conducted the studio orchestra. In 1960 he arranged “Il barattolo” (The Can), written and performed by Gianni Meccia, by using a real can as a percussive effect. The can was dropped down on a slipway, surfaced with gravel and concrete, and its falls, tumbles, spinnings and rollings gave the music an unusual sound. The song became an instant hit in Italy.
