NOTE: Pierrette FIORI – forgotten Italian soprano with a beautiful voice that could walk along the musical scale with great perfection. She made successes from the 1910s through the 1920s and into 1930s singing in operettas and music shows and like many operatic singers of her times (Richard Tauber, Benjamino Gigli, Lily Pons, Tito Schipa, Jan Kiepura) she enjoyed performing the popular dance hits. After the 2nd WW she traveled to Chile, where her career declined and she passed away in the 1970s. She wasn’t prolific in recording and you can scarcely meet any of her presentations in the web.

According to the song’s title, my slideshow presents several tobacco ads as well as photos of the smoking celebrities from the interwar, although it would be hard to find a bigger anti-smoker than me. Unfortunately, in the 1930s-40s the severe health effects of smoking were not yet fully realized and cigarette in the hand of a man, especially a woman, belonged to the attributes of worldly elegance.
