TUFLOW modelling: practical approaches to minimise errors
High quality and reliable flood model results are paramount. The most innovative well designed flood mitigation infrastructure or flood risk management plan can be completely undermined if the flood modelling data it is based on is inaccurate or inappropriate for the task-at-hand.
The quality and reliability of flood model results, and therefore the risk management plan the results inform, are influenced by multiple factors, including:
· The quality of data being used as input to the model.
· The modellers interpretation and implementation of the input data.
· The suitability of the software being used.
· Model design assumptions.
The webinar discusses the above potential sources of error. We walk through the flood model build process demonstrating some simple practical common-sense approaches to minimise potential unintended mistakes using TUFLOW. This is an invaluable education session for inexperienced modellers and a refresher for the experienced. Following the model build demonstration we step through a useful quality control checklist.
