Replacing a Sinking Foundation - Cabin Restoration Japan

I love Japanese carpentry! I was very happy to get the opportunity to help restore and renovate this beautiful cabin up in the mountains of Japan. In this video I attempt to explain what we did to stabilize the foundation of this cabin. The old foundation was leaning down hill and was not in good condition. What we did was dig out the old foundation and re-pour a stronger foundation that was connected with the rest of the house.

The hardest part about this renovation was the remoteness of the cabin. we had to carry everything from the road which was 100m away over a trail and two staircases. It was a lot of hard work but it was fun to see the changes we made. Hope you enjoy!
