The movie is a remake of Akira Kurosawa's "Yojimbo." This was Clint Eastwood's very first leading role in a feature film. It was also the first time an Italian-made, western received a major international release as well as the first time that director Sergio Leone and composer Ennio Morricone collaborated together on a film. .
