Bunion Splints, Do They Work? How to Wear Properly and When to Wear

Parents often ask if a bunion splint or brace can *correct* their bunion. The answer is no—bunion braces do not straighten the bone or permanently correct a bunion deformity.

What they *can* do is help maintain alignment during surgical recovery after a bunion procedure. For pediatric and adolescent bunions, a bunion splint is typically worn at night while sleeping.

After bunion surgery, splints and corrective dressings may be used as part of the healing process to help protect the surgical correction while tissues recover. Their role is supportive—not corrective.

If your child is developing a bunion, early evaluation can help determine the best treatment options and whether observation, shoe modifications, orthotics, or surgery may be appropriate.
