How to Add JPEG Damage Effect on Davinci Resolve [NEW]

In this tutorial, we demonstrate the highly stylized 2026 workflow for adding a JPEG Damage effect in DaVinci Resolve to instantly simulate the authentic blocky compression, pixelated digital decay, and low-bitrate artifacting of early internet imagery or corrupted files. To apply this, navigate to the Effects library on the Edit or Color page, select the Open FX category, and drag the JPEG Damage plugin directly onto your timeline clip or onto a dedicated node in your color correction tree. Open the Inspector panel under the Effects tab to customize the Compression Quality and Block Size parameters, allowing you to downscale the image into distinct 8x8 pixel matrices and aggressively strip out data until the iconic, heavy macroblocking distortions emerge across high-contrast areas of your frame. We also show how to manipulate the Chroma Subsampling and Artifacting Scale modules inside the inspector to introduce harsh color bleeding, digital fuzz, and aliased edge tearing, and how to utilize the Global Blend slider to perfectly balance the gritty digital corruption aesthetic with your clean original timeline footage for a professional, high-end retro cyber finish. By mastering the JPEG Damage effect, you can introduce a powerful, visually immersive, and deeply stylized sense of low-fidelity texture and digital compression simulation to your professional storytelling in DaVinci Resolve 2026.
