US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth Calls For A 'New NATO' As Europe Faces Growing Security Threats

US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth met with French Armed Forces Minister, Catherine Vautrin, during his visit to Caen on Saturday. Hegseth was in France to mark the occasion of the 82nd anniversary of D-Day.

During the meeting Hegseth said NATO allies needed to "cast off the NATO of the post-Cold War" and instead focus on its "core war fighting mission", outlining a US vision of a new alliance which he described as a “NATO 3.0”. "We need strong allies who by increasing their defense spending and investing in combat credible forces are fully committed to what we're calling NATO 3.0," he said.
