How To FIX BRAD NAIL SPRING OUT! (Brad Nail Blow Out / Spring Out -- How To Fix And Avoid!)
Brad nails and brad nailers are indispensable for carpentry and woodworking projects. However, brad nails are prone to spring out no matter how careful you are with them. In this short video, The Honest Carpenter will show you how to fix brad nail blow out / spring out quickly and easily!
Brad nails spring out or blow out because they get turned inside the wood or material. This causes the tip to punch through the edge or side of the piece.
You can help prevent this by keeping the tip of the brad nailer tool perpendicular to the wood grain and not using too much nail. BUT, brad nail blow out and spring out is still possible!
HOW TO FIX BRAD NAIL BLOW OUT / SPRING OUT:
Don't try to pry brad nails with pliers or nail pullers! This will only bruise the wood surface you're working with. Nails will rarely pull out--they'll just bend or snap off in bad spots.
Instead, use needle nose pliers to grip the brad nail and gently bend it upright. Grip the brad nail as close to the base as possible. Twist it back and forth until it breaks off.
Use a nail set to push the remaining metal spur down. Embed the metal spur into the wood. (It's okay if you enlarge the hole slightly.)
Dab the hole with wood filler (color appropriate). Use 220 grit sandpaper to sand the wood filler to a smooth finish. Paint or stain the project as you like.
That's how you fix brad nail blow out / spring out. Thanks for watching!
