Poveglia Island’s Real Dr Frankenstein

Poveglia Island, Venice, has a long and varied history.

Starting as a quarantine island for suspected plague victims it quickly grew a reputation for hauntings. It’s claimed the ground itself has a high percentage of human ashes mixed in.

It was later used as a mental asylum where crude and batbaric practices were conducted on patients in Frankenstein like experiments.

The doctor responsible later jumped from the bell tower on the island, leading to his death. Some believe the hauntings on the island drove him to this end.
