📜 The History and Culture of Kealakekua Bay | Captain Cook Hawaii 📜#hawaiihistory #bigislandhawaii
It’s day nine on the Big Island of Hawaii. And today brought us one final unforgettable ocean adventure — sailing along the Kona Coast aboard a luxury catamaran to snorkel one of Hawaii’s most legendary locations, the Captain Cook Monument at Kealakekua Bay.
We started our morning at Keauhou Bay, boarding the Hoku Nui, a 50-foot sailing catamaran operated by Sea Paradise Hawaii. As the sun rose over the Pacific, calm morning waters created perfect conditions for a relaxed and immersive snorkeling experience along Hawaii’s stunning coastline.
Our journey took us south to our first stop…Iguanas Mooring. Along the way we enjoyed an island breakfast and incredible coastal views.
After a brief deep-water snorkel at Iguanas, we continued south to Kealakekua Bay, a protected Marine Life Conservation District known for crystal-clear visibility, vibrant coral reefs, and abundant tropical marine life. Snorkeling near the iconic Captain Cook Monument quickly became one of the highlights of our entire trip — with colorful fish, deep blue water, and incredible underwater scenery in every direction.
Throughout the voyage, the crew shared Hawaiian history, reef education, and cultural stories that made the experience feel far more meaningful than just a snorkel tour.
After returning to shore, we spent a peaceful afternoon visiting a local farmers market before heading back to the cottage to pack, unwind, and reflect on an incredible Big Island adventure coming to an end.
If you’re planning a Hawaii trip and want a memorable way to experience Kealakekua Bay and the Captain Cook Monument, sailing there by catamaran might be one of the best experiences you can add to your itinerary.
